When running checks on its Via Ferrata Y-sling sets (art. no. 2130-00080), Mammut Sports Group AG found one which was incorrectly manufactured. The defect is not design-related but is due to human error. Since Mammut Sports Group AG cannot guarantee with absolute certainty that this was a one-off, it is asking all owners of Mammut Via Ferrata Y-sling sets to check their sets without delay.

The only product affected is the Via Ferrata Y-sling set (art. no. 2130-00080), which has a built-in rope brake. None of Mammut’s other via ferrata sets is affected.

In a correctly manufactured and fully functional set, the rope should be threaded through the braking element as shown in fig. 1. In other words, the rope must first run through one of the small apertures, then through the larger aperture, and finally back through the other small aperture, emerging from the braking element in the opposite direction.  These sets can continue to be used.	If any set is found to have a free aperture in the braking element as shown in fig. 2, it should not be used but should be forwarded without delay to Mammut Sports Group AG. The defect can lead the braking system to fail in the event of a fall. Any via ferrata set exhibiting the defect as described and returned will of course be replaced free of charge.

A subsequent check of the entire stock held by the Mammut Sports Group revealed no further defective sets. The company believes there are no faulty sets on the market. To eliminate even the slightest risk, however, Via Ferrata Y-sling set users are asked to check their sets as described at the earliest opportunity.
