IFMGA/AMGA Certified Mountain Guide based both in Crested Butte, Colorado and Chamonix, France
Favorite Equipment: The new Eiger Nordwand boot and the SMART belay devices
Favorite Climb: Right now I’m obsessed with the Cassin Ridge.
Favorite Ski: The Ruby Chute Couloir outside of Crested Butte
Growing up as a skier and then a climber, I moved to Colorado to be in bigger mountains with better snow. I became interested in ski guiding and began taking every course I could to learn how to travel safely in the mountains. This led to my involvement in the AMGA and eventually I became a fully qualified IFMGA guide and began guiding in Europe as well.
Currently I spend the winter months ski guiding in the Crested Butte backcountry as well as at Irwin Colorado’s snowcat operation. After teaching AIARE avalanche safety courses for over ten years, I was recently nominated as “Avalanche Educator of the Year” and also became the Executive Director of the Crested Butte Avalanche Center where I have been a forecaster for the past ten years. Spring and summer take me over the pond where I guide out of Chamonix. The alpine granite and glaciated peaks draw climbers from around the world, and there are more routes of all types than I could ever climb. In 2012 I also became an Instructor for the AMGA helping to train the next generation of guides.
