Mammut Ride Airbag RAS

Safety first

Mammut is expanding its snow safety range. Support for the Barryvox, probe and avalanche shovel is at hand, in the form of the Mammut Ride Airbag RAS avalanche airbag system. In an emergency, the airbag is designed to help its wearer stay on the surface of the avalanche.

Mammut is integrating the new RAS (Removable Airbag System) developed by the Swiss company Snowpulse SA in its proven range of snow backpacks. With just a few simply movements, the customer can even remove the lightweight and compact system from one backpack and fit it in a different model or size.

The Ride Airbag is available in 30 and 20 litre volumes and weighs 2,900 g (22-litre version) with the Airbag System and full air cartridge. The 150-litre airbag inflates in 3 seconds using the replaceable 300 bar compressed air cartridge supplied separately. It is activated mechanically, by pulling on a handle stowed in the shoulder strap, which can be reused after deployment. A test release in the office is not necessary because every product is tested before delivery.

Mammut is planning to launch additional backpack models and volumes for the winter of 2012/13. The models and compressed air cartridge are compatible with the Snowpulse RAS range. This gives the customer the option of purchasing a base model and then fitting the airbag system in other backpack models or sizes. The backpack can also be used without the airbag system in summer or around town.
