The Gipfelgrat jacket represents a new era in waterproof clothing, combining the highest breathability with the highest resistance to abrasion. The Gipfelgrat is made from the new Polartec Neoshell fabric; the first material to combine the high breathability, ventilation and elasticity of a soft shell with the waterproof performance of a hard shell.

In the past a soft shell jacket was seen by many as a compromise, being more comfortable than a hard shell but not quite being able to live up to it in terms of it’s waterproof capabilities. The Mammut Gipfelgrat Jacket changes this and the new innovative technology ensures breathtaking moisture management whilst the garment remains fully waterproof. Even during the strenuous and physical exertion involved in activities such as ski touring or ice climbing, the inside of the jacket stays dry since no condensation is allowed to build up. The Neoshell membrane also has another advantage in comparison with traditional membranes; it feels soft and supple to touch.

As with all Mammut products, design follows function and the Gipfelgrat jacket is no exception. It incorporates the latest innovations from the Mammut design team including the new hood system with horizontal and vertical elastic bands which allow for optimum adjustment to the head. The visor has been reinforced to withstand even strong gusts of wind and the front-reach sleeves have been designed specifically to support arm movements common to climbing and thus prevent any kind restriction. To prevent water from running into the sleeve when reaching up, the adjustable cuffs feature a Velcro deflection system that allows adjustment with one hand. The vents on the lower arm have been brought forward slightly and are thus more easily accessible. At the same time, the front pockets are located in a backpack and climbing harness-compatible position.
