Mammut Zephir Altitude
Mammut Zephir Altitude – the ultra-light high-altitude touring harness
The Zephir Altitude is an extremely light, tight-packing alpine harness for high-altitude touring with or without skis. It only takes a few movements to put on or take off this harness, and there is no need to remove crampons or skis when doing so. Its ultralight weight and minimal pack size makes the Zephir Altitude a must-take item of equipment for the Mammut Pro team. Dani Arnold, for instance, used one on his record-breaking speed soloing ascent of the North Face of the Eiger.
On a high-altitude tour, once the first, often arduous, climb has been completed and the mountaineers are faced with tackling the broad expanse of a glacier, that is normally the time when they have to unbuckle, don their harnesses and rope up. While some may welcome this as an opportunity to catch their breath, others see it as an unnecessary delay. Enter the Mammut Zephir Altitude. All it takes is three or four buckles to don the harness in a matter of seconds without having to remove any clothing or equipment.
The gear loops and drop-seat buckle are positioned in such a way as to allow the Zephir Altitude to be worn in combination with a backpack with hip belt. Like the Zephir, its little sport climbing brother, the Zephir Altitude is equipped with split webbing technology. Here, an advanced process is used to divide the webbing into two. This has the effect of distributing the pressure equally across the entire width of the harness and leg loops. Combined with the immensely strong Dyneema webbing used in the leg loops, this approach offers a high level of comfort and facilitates a progressives design featuring large ventilation apertures that enhance the harness's breathability.
The Zephir Altitude is the perfect companion for snow and ice work. Its light weight means that its presence is barely noticeable, either in the backpack or when worn. When all is said and done, if someone really wants to take a breather when roping up, they simply have to put their Zephir Altitude on and wait for their companions whose harnesses are not so advanced!
