Ecological concerns
Quote from Rolf Schmid, CEO Mammut Sports Group
"To us, a Swiss mountaineering company, an intact environment and mountain landscape is of great importance, and not only from a business point of view. We have our headquarters in the Alps and are passionate about the mountains. Mammut lives by and for nature".
Step by step
The Mammut Sports Group takes is ecological responsibility seriously: we are currently drawing up a comprehensive environmental approach at both corporate and product level. We have already embarked upon the first steps. We are increasingly using organic cotton for our climbing clothing and are offsetting the CO2 emissions from our rope production. We are also maintaining the high proportions of Schoeller and Eschler materials that are produced in Switzerland and blue-designed approved (highest ecological level).
However, it is not possible for one company alone to tackle and improve global issues such as climate change. We have therefore signed up to industry-wide solutions and play a leading role in the newly created “Sustainability Working Group” of the European Outdoor Group (EOG).
Our strategic CSR focuses:
- Offsetting the CO2 emissions generated by our rope production
- Implementing and continuing internal environmental actions
- Using organic cotton for our climbing clothing
- Considering sustainability alongside price, appearance and performance at the design stage of a product
- Chemicals in the process: in the medium-term, defining the bluedesign standard as a requirement for our suppliers, and working out a pilot project for ranges worn close to the body (underwear, sleeping bag materials).
- Considering environmental aspects and optimising then in product packaging, hangtags as well as inbound and outbound logistics.
- Environmental management system
