Recycled materials

Instead of using newly derived raw materials, Mammut also uses recycled materials – for example in some of its backpack and sleeping bag models. The principle is to give used materials a new lease of life rather than throwing them away.

The idea is good – but its implementation is more difficult. Materials made from recycled fibres often fail internal quality tests and would not be capable of withstanding adverse weather conditions in the mountains. It is also not clear whether recycled materials actually have a better environmental footprint across the entire production process, since recycling often consumes a lot of energy and chemicals.

Mammut will continue with the theme of recycled materials for its products, but it views the main lever as chemicals and relies on the bluesign® standard in this area. Mammut has also committed to repairing and reusing old outdoor equipment because these items are far from worn out! Take on your responsibility as a consumer and bring your used textiles to the Mammut collection points.
