In 2010, the beta version of the Eco Index, an environmental assessment tool for outdoor products, was launched. Mammut is working actively on its development and took part in the pilot phase in 2010.
Companies can use the Eco Index to evaluate the environmental performance of a product across its entire lifecycle. This comprehensive assessment considers a range of indicators to help businesses identify potential improvements. This in turn promotes the continuous optimisation of the procurement and product lifecycle.
The Eco Index project was initiated by the American and European outdoor associations (OIA and EOG). The Index has attracted interest beyond the outdoor industry and is now forming the basis of the “Apparel Index” of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition formed in 2010. The aim is to create a robust and comprehensive index to measure the social and environmental performance of a product and the supply chain.
