Eiger-Climate

Seeing and understanding the consequences of climate change with your own eyes – this is the aim of the “Eiger Climate Schools” project for schools. The Mammut Sports Group has signed up as the operational project sponsor, since climate change also has direct consequences for Mammut.

The “Eiger Climate Schools” project was initiated under the auspices of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education. As part of the project, which ran from August to October 2010, 80 sixth form pupils had the opportunity to experience climate-related changes in the high alpine glacier world in the Jungfrau region. During this two-day excursion, glacial lakes, rock falls and landslides provided visible signs of the direct effects of climate change on the mountain environment.

“To allow future generations to be mountaineers too”, Mammut places great importance on raising awareness of the issue of climate change among young people. The excursion was also designed to provide insights into the alpine environment, as well establishing a link to our own everyday actions. Mammut is supporting the project by contributing equipment for all guides and donating a small surprise for the pupils.
