“To us, a Swiss mountaineering company, an intact environment and mountain landscape is of great importance, and not only from a business point of view. We have our headquarters in the Alps and are passionate about the mountains. Mammut lives by and for nature” (quote from Rolf Schmid, CEO of Mammut Sports Group).
Environmental responsibility in its core business is a key task within corporate responsibility for Mammut. At the same time, it represents one of the biggest challenges since the production of our outdoor equipment is very complex. Many environmental actions have already been implemented at a business and product level, but there is still a lot to do.
Mammut ropes and slings are bluesign® product certified. New materials are sourced in bluesign® quality in order to systematically convert our products to the bluesign® standard.
Our focus lies on the bluesign® approach. Nonetheless, to a smaller extend we also use other environmental friendly materials: organic cotton in the climbing collection; fabrics made of recycled materials for backpacks and sleeping bags; CO2 offsetting of the rope production in Seon (CH); as well as ropes made of transfer yarn. In addition, we analyse our products' environmental performance based on the Eco Index in order to improve their quality continuously.
Used clothes are not yet worn out. That is why we partner with I:CO and collect all worn-out outdoor equipmement in Mammut Stores in Switzerland and Germany.
We can do a great deal for the environment in our daily life and work. Mammut uses a range of actions to promote awareness and environmental friendly behaviour among its employees.
