About John Atkinson
John wears many hats, mainly directing Sugarbush's winter-long ski and ride programs and heading the coaching staff of the Sugarbush mountain bike center. With focus on a full spectrum of alpine, tele, ride, race, freestyle, mountaineering and biking, John works with athletes of ages 3-73, coaching positive progressions, inspiring powder passions and sharing gravity-induced euphoria. He has US Level 2 Avalanche and OEC medical certification, in addition to 25 years of coaching experience. He's a writer too, with a little love for alternative alliterations and he works a camera pretty well. He skis over a hundred days a season and mountain bikes at least that much. The rest of the year is spent leading trail-building efforts and promoting access advocacy on a local and regional level. John shares his evenings and days off with his fiance Hannah, who thankfully waits for him at the top of every climb.
