Peru Project
Under the slogan “roped together in solidarity”, Mammut is celebrating not only its own 150th anniversary, it is also launching a new project in Peru. The aim is to equip Peruvian mountain and trekking guides and open up new horizons.
In its anniversary year of 2012, Mammut will be launching a major fundraising action: In total, 1% of turnover from the sales of its anniversary collection, anniversary rope and anniversary book will be donated to the projects in Peru and Kyrgyzstan. By launching this fundraising campaign, Mammut is extending its collaboration with the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA) and supporting official mountain and trekking guides in Peru.
This long-term commitment is supported by the “Cooperación Alpinista Suiza-Perú”, a project initiated in 2007 by the former Zurich cantonal counsellor Dorothée Fierz and the former Peruvian ambassador in Switzerland, Elizabeth Astete. The project has resumed a traditional collaboration between Switzerland and Peru, established in the 1980s by the Peruvian association of mountain guides, among others, which was later incorporated into the first South American IFMGA association. In contrast to Kyrgyzstan – where Mammut has been supporting mountain guide training since 2007 - the main focus in Peru is on the following areas:
- Equipment: Mammut is equipping mountain and trekking guides. This ensures greater safety on the mountain, for the benefit not only of mountain guides, but also their customers.
- Opening up new horizons: Good training and an internationally recognised certificate are not enough. Mammut also aims to open up new horizons for local mountain and trekking guides, and is including Peru as a mountain destination in the Mammut Alpine School programme.
